An Ordinance to make provision for the Prepara- tion and Publication of a New and Revised Edition of the Statute Laws of the Colony.

WHEREAS it would be for the public advantage that a new and revised edition of the Statute Laws of this Colony should be prepared and published without delay;

And whereas it is expedient that & Commissioner should be appointed and other proceedings should be taken as hereinafter mentioned for this purpose:

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong. with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:---

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Statute Laws Short title, (Revised Edition) Ordinance, 1900.

2. In this Ordinance-

"Ordinance" includes any Order of the Quecu-in- Interpreta.

Council and any Proclamation or other instrument tion of terms. respectively recognized as having the force of law

in this Colony :

The new edition" means the new and revised edition of the Statute Laws of the Colony to be prepared

under the anthority of this Ordinance,

preparation and making arrangements, subject to the approval of the edition of Governor, for the printing and publication thereof.

(2.) In case the said Sir JoHN WORRELL CARRINGTON is unable from any cause to fully discharge his commission under this Ordinance, the Governor way appoint some other fit and proper persou or other fit aul proper persons to be a Commissioner or Commissioners in his stend.

(3.) If in such ense more Commissioners than one are appointed, the term "the Commissioner" as hereinafter

used shall apply to such Commissioners.

4. The Commissioner shall be furnished with stationery Provbling of and clerical assistance.

5. In the preparation of the now edition the Commis sioner shall have the following powers, that is to say,-

(a.) all Urdinances or parts of Ordinances which rested in the have been expressly or specifically repealed, or Commis. which have expired, or have become spent, or have had their effect;

(b) all repealing enactments contained in Ordin- ances, and also all tables or lists of repealed ennctments, whether contained in schedules or otherwise;

(c) all preambles to Ordinances, where such omis- sion can, in the opinion of the Commissioner, he conveniently made;

(d) all introductory words of enactment in any section of an Ordinance where such Ordinance consists of more sectious than one, and where such omission can, in the opinion of the Com- missioner, be conveniently made;

(2.) all enactinents prescribing the date when an Ordinance or part of an Ordinauce is to come into force, where such omission can, in the opinion of the Commissioner, be conveniently made; aud (A) all amending Ordinances or parts of Ordinaucos where the amendments effected by such Onlin- ances or parts of Ordinances have been embodied by the Commissioner in the Ordinances to which they relate ;
